I wasn’t sure if I should publish this today, on Remembrance Day.
I have a lot of respect for people who sacrifice so much, sometimes everything, for something they believe in.
It’s important we understand the context of those beliefs. Where do they come from?
High school history taught us, that the first casualty of war is truth; I mean, governments bamboozle their citizens. Happens all the time. Not our governments, of course. Only the loser nation states.
If that sounds sarcastic, then you weren’t paying enough attention in history class. Or maybe you weren’t so easily influenced. Good on ya!
I was slow getting to the party. Only recently, I learned how governments do it; bamboozle their citizens, I mean. Unfortunately, I’m not comfortable sharing the source here. Sorry.
Anyway, if you ever wondered how they do it, then this poem is for you.

Governments govern the playground With big words Policy. Policy. It’s like me and you standing in a playground And you saying, “Because I say so.” Policy. Paleeeze! This is my playground too. Why should I listen to you? A public inquiry serves the government And the nation state. Because they say so. It’s in their Terms of Reference. [Insert big words here.] =L=
