Father Hollywood - Version 2
Which version do you like better, the original or this one? Polls close when we're done counting. And we get the right answer. Nudge nudge. Wink wink.
I watched a priest Soak a piece of bread in some wine The body of Christ, jingle jingle Happens all the time This time, though And I ain’t exaggerating He soaked it real good, too good The way only Father Hollywood could I saw for myself. This was my wedding Beside me, my bride We had front-row seats For this rodeo ride Father Hollywood shook the bread once He shook the bread twice I remember like yesterday When people at weddings used to throw rice Reminiscing reminiscing The point seems to be missing So let’s focus on three things Not one of them the rings First, Father Hollywood This is the guy who later in life Would beat on his wife With impunity Next, my wife The woman I love Her dress, the colour of angels Sent from above Last but not least The bread On it’s tip A drop A drip A drip A drop Of wine How careless the reach From his cup to her mouth I watched in slow motion The bread cross a gap big as an ocean It hung there Waiting for rescue But I was not equipped And so the wine dripped The wine, the dress, the target Her bosom The ocean is big No safe place to put em God, please, I beseech you Take Father Hollywood’s hand Guide it to the promised land P.S. Don’t make a mess of the dress My prayer was for naught The drip, the drop, the wine on the dress Did finally find their mark Then white turned to dark Later, my best man Ran to the store Came back with club soda I guess that makes four Or five. I lost track These things don’t matter Not really. Not like the people we love Or how to remove, from a white dress, a dark splatter
Yesterday, I posted the original.
